My First Hymn: Come Unto Christ
I wrote a song before I came on my mission about coming unto Christ
and being perfected in him. It was my first attempt at composing a choir hymn
about Jesus Christ and it really had me thinking a lot about what
it really means to come unto our Saviour and follow him.
When we move towards something, by default, we are also choosing
to move away from something else. So what is it that we move away from in order
to come unto Jesus Christ?
We each have things in our lives that we know are pulling us
down, putting us on hold and stopping us from truly progressing. Perhaps
there's an addiction you have that has started taking control of your life or
perhaps grief or sorrow has taken hold of you since a bad experience took place
and has brought you down to a place that you are unable to get out of. Or maybe
you're just someone that feels like you have no direction or meaning to your life
and have stopped trying. Whatever the case, every single one of us will find
greater peace and joy in the journey of moving toward Jesus Christ and we each
have the ability to choose that direction for ourselves. He has invited each of
us who labour and are heavy laden to come unto him and he will give
us rest. “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; … and ye shall find rest
unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew
11:28-30)
That invitation is extended to ALL!
This is a rough recording of my family singing the hymn
Come Unto Christ (And Be Perfected in Him) - By Jenna Walmsley
Verse 1:Our Saviour calls on us to follow in his path,
To open up our hearts and minds, have faith in his plan
Each of us can make a change in our lives,
Conversion to the Lord begins with humble desire
Chorus:
Come unto Christ
Come unto Christ
And be perfected in him
Come unto Christ
Come unto Christ
And receive, all that he brings
Our Saviour and King
Come unto Christ
Verse 2:
If you offer the Lord your will, his hand to guide your way
And lay aside the pride within, you'll feel his love and grace,
Give to him your broken heart and who you want to be,
Let your spirit be contrite obey him faithfully,
Chorus:
Come unto Christ
Come unto Christ
And be perfected in him
Come unto Christ
Come unto Christ
And receive, all that he brings
Our Saviour and King
Come unto Christ x2
